Ice-cream delight!
Wonwell class are learning about holidays for their topic this half term. As part of this we have focused on one of a holiday makers favourite foods- ice-cream! On Tuesday afternoon we set up a Science experiment to make our very own ice-cream. First of all we held some ice in our hands and talked about what it was like, what happens when it gets hot and how it changes. Then we talked about where ice-cream comes from and how it could be made in a factory. We made ours using plastic bags, ice cubes, rock salt, cream, sugar and vanilla. We learnt about the reaction between salt and ice and how it lowers the temperature to make the cream freeze even faster. The children put the ice and salt in a big bag and the other ingredients in a smaller bag inside the big one. They had to shake the ingredients together and wait for the magic to happen. Some groups worked better than others which led to a conversation about Science being a process of exploration and thinking about what we would change next time. Please click here to see more photos.
