Maths and History at Beach School!
Mothecombe class brought their history learning to life today by creating life sized Viking Longboats in the sand. We found out that they were called Drakkar and ranged in size from 18-36 metres. The children used a trundle wheel to measure out 18 metres by 3.5 metres. Then they drew in details such as the oars, shields and figure head. We looked at the size of the boats and talked about how cramped and challenging the conditions would have been. The children were totally engrossed and engaged in their learning.
